One Month Later

It’s so hard to believe we have been here for one month already!

The YDM (Youth Discipleship and Mentoring) Program for February 2012 is underway and we are enjoying getting to know all these students. There are 4 men and 7 women participating (after 38 went through orientation and 27 interviewed.) They are between the ages of 18 and 29 years old and many have families that they are desperately trying to find a way to support.  The students have already jumped right into the discussion during the morning devotions and are eager to learn all they can.

We got to help teach hosting class this morning and enjoyed practice/role playing. They are beginning to be more confident in themselves, which is evident by their brightened smiles and their vocal volume. Most young people here speak so softly you have to ask them to repeat themselves two or three times, it seems they didn’t want to draw attention to themselves, but now their confidence is growing.

We had a wonderful time at the Rock Lodge. The Garden Cafe staff members will start rotating through and each go through the leadership training, Pamela and Jen will leave tomorrow! For Malia the weekend brought back so many memories of JV and TAG camps with ropes courses and team songs and skits. James said it was exactly like Hume Lake.  Both jumped right in and started helping the leaders of the camp any way possible. We led kids through ropes courses and they even opened up their stage in sessions for us to share.

In the process of updating the marketing here, Malia took some pictures of the staff at the cafe for their new website… here’s a sneak peak and a point of contact for prayer. Most of the staff are parents and are still growing up themselves. Please keep them in your prayers.

Part two is coming,
